New York dairy cattle free of avian flu, state says

Dairy cows being fed
New York’s dairy cattle are free of avian flu, according to the state Department of Agriculture and Markets.

The New York Department of Agriculture and Markets says the state’s dairy cattle are free of the avian flu. The Department credits New York’s dairy and poultry farmers for taking strong proactive biosecurity measures as well as testing measures for cattle entering the state for fairs and exhibitions.

The announcement comes as Cornell researchers say avian flu will have an economic impact of $950 for every impacted cow. They say it has cost U.S. producers $1.4 billion since 2022.
