Most Americans support banning phones in schools, Pew finds

Five children play on cellphones
New York districts have until August 1 to finalize their own cell phone policies.

While some New Yorkers may be grumbling, a new Pew Research report shows 74% of U.S. adults support banning cell phones in middle and high school classrooms.

About 44% support full-day bans, like the one New York is implementing, while 46% are opposed.

School districts across the state are finalizing their individual plans for banning student phone use. The deadline to submit those plans is August 1.
