Oneida Shores Beach closed due to high E. coli levels

Swimming is off-limits at Oneida Shores Beach after water tests showed dangerous levels of E. coli. Health officials say the bacteria can cause serious illness.

The Oneida Shores Beach is closed until further notice due to high levels of E. coli. The Onondaga County Health Department tested the water Monday and reported that E. coli levels far exceeded state safety standards.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, E. coli can cause diarrhea, urinary tract infections, pneumonia, sepsis and other illnesses.

Onondaga County Parks posted the closure alert on social media and directed visitors to its website for more information:
