New York Attorney General Opens Special Investigation Into A Deadly Police-Involved Shooting In Syracuse

The New York Attorney General’s office is investigating a police-involved shooting in Syracuse that left a woman dead.

The Syracuse Police Department responded to a call early Wednesday morning about a woman with a knife on Ulster Street. After a while of communication with police and crisis-trained officers, the woman allegedly set fire to the house she was in and charged officers with a knife. A member of the SPD shot the woman, and she was moved to the hospital where she was eventually pronounced dead.

State law requires any death that may be caused by a police officer to be investigated. If the state Attorney General’s office finds the officer responsible for the death, a full investigation will begin.
