Job Seekers approach Employers for job opportunities

A large local employment fair is bringing hope to job seekers after COVID-19 disrupted the market. Nearly 30 companies advertised their open positions at a Destiny USA event Wednesday.

Job seekers met with representatives from employers including Amazon, Byrne Dairy and outlets at the mall about current openings.

Dru Anne Fellmeth spent 20 years leading service teams, but lost her job during the pandemic. She said she came to the event looking for a fresh start.

"It's a great way to get out there, especially after being home, whether you were working from home or home unemployed. With the pandemic and everything it is great to get out and get some face time with employers and practice your interviewing skills."

Like many job seekers, Fellmeth said she wanted to take advantage of so many employers in one room even if it's just a first step.

"I'll leave here with some leads to follow up on whether or not this is the one that gets me there. I try to stay busy because I know that's when my next opportunity will come up."

Employers represented at the fair are trying to hire their way out of a worker shortage and are still looking for candidates even after the event.
