Democrats Tom Drumm, left, and Chris Ryan are seeking the nomination for New York's 50th senate district seat.

Central New York Democrats are choosing who they feel is the best candidate to advance to the general election in New York’s 50TH senate district. The primary between Tom Drumm and Chris Ryan means only one of them will emerge to fill the open seat being vacated by John Mannion. WAER’s politics reporter Scott Willis caught up with both candidates.

In the public interest, WAER offered each candidate the chance to state their campaign platform uninterrupted and answer several follow up questions. The audio file includes both interviews back to back, beginning with Tom Drumm. Chris Ryan's interview begins at the 13:30 mark.

Republican candidates in the 48th senate district primary did not respond to requests for interviews.
Here's our story from Fanny Villarreal's campaign launch Jan. 11. Caleb Slater announced his bid a week later. They're hoping to unseat Democratic incumbent Rachel May.
