Shooting near Syracuse University results in teen killed.

More details are emerging from the shooting death of a teenager near an apartment in the Syracuse University area. Syracuse Police say the victim was 15-year-old Alexcia Lynch of Syracuse. They are not providing any other details about what was going on at the time of the Friday shooting.

Syracuse University Department of Public Safety issued a warning to the university community around 8:30 Friday that shots were fired near the 900 block of Madison Street. The email notification instructed people to stay away from the area.

Later that night, DPS officials said they and Syracuse Police were on scene investigating, and the area had been blocked off by police tape.

SU officials are asking for any information about the incident be relayed to 315-443-2224. Meanwhile, Syracuse police say anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Syracuse Police Department Criminal Investigations Division at (315) 442-5222.

Update 9/2/2024: Syracuse Police say a 15 year-old male suspect turned himself in. He is being held at Hillbrook Juvenile Detention Facility.
