Residents in the villages of Jordan and Elbridge, as well as portions of the Town of Elbridge are being told to boil their water before drinking. The Onondaga County Health Department issued the order due to inadequate disinfection.

Residents should boil tap water for one minute and then allow it to cool before drinking, brushing teeth, washing dishes, preparing food, or making ice. Residents can also purchase bottled water.

The chlorination system equipment malfunction that prompted the order has been resolved but bacteria may not return to safe levels for three days.

Residents on private wells are not affected.
