A house is for sale in the city of Syracuse. March 22, 2023.

Home prices continued their steady climb last month in Central New York. New data from the Greater Syracuse Association of Realtors shows the median sales price jumped 8.2% in August compared to the same month last year to just over $270,000. That’s despite plenty of inventory to choose from and fewer closed sales.

The number of homes listed on the market is up a whopping 43% compared to a year ago, and sales were down nearly 13% percent. Realtors said they’re optimistic about buyer activity in September as mortgage rates decreased in advance of the federal reserve’s interest rate cut.
