Cortland nonprofits have an opportunity to grab their share of a $12 million dollar bequest left by a Cortland couple. Nicholas and Agnes Renzi instructed the CNY Community Foundation to steward the money. There are plans to divide annual award installments of $600,000 annually in increments of $10,000 to $15,000.

“Nick and Agnes believed deeply in giving back to the community that became their home,” said Melanie Littlejohn, president & CEO of the Central New York Community Foundation. “Their generosity will empower nonprofits in Cortland County to create lasting change. We are honored to steward their legacy and ensure their impact continues in perpetuity.”

Priority areas for each round of grants will emphasize health, human services and economic development. The foundation says another $2 million dollars is earmarked for the Community Grants Program to support innovative projects in Onondaga and Madison counties. Members of the public may join the Cortland County advisory board to provide local input about local priorities and nonprofits who would benefit. The board will also decide on a $75,000 project with a community-wide vote. The CNY Community Foundation is a supporter of WAER.
