City & County offices, services, travel impacted by blizzard-like conditions

Snowy streets with a snowplow stopped at a red light, large snow banks line the streets.

It was pretty hard to avoid the impacts of the blowing snow that piled up early and continued throughout the day. Syracuse City and Onondaga County offices – along with many businesses were closed.

Syracuse has a full complement of large and small snowplows trying to keep up. If you want to know when streets in your area are plowed, the city has a snow-plow map – at syr.gov/winter. Trash and recycling collection is also impacted. Residents in the City’s north and east sections with Tuesday pick ups are being asked to put out cans one day later.

Onondaga County is under a winter storm warning through 7:00 tomorrow morning. The county issued a travel advisory due to hazardous road conditions. While not a restriction, they recommend only driving if necessary; reduce your speed; completely clear your vehicle of snow; and don’t pass or crowd snowplows, emergency vehicles or tow trucks.
