Spring is in the air and soon will follow asphalt and paving trucks around Onondaga County.

Crews are scheduled to smooth over 20 miles of lanes on portions of I-81 and I-481 in the county, and another six miles from Syracuse’s City Line to Mattydale.

Another 28 miles along Route 5 bypass leading to Old Route 5 and Route 695 in Camillus are also slated for new pavement.

Other projects include State Route 298 through Lyncourt and the Town of Salina and U.S. Route 11 from Cicero into the Village of North Syracuse.

The State Department of Transportation will also send crews to fill some 175,000 potholes created by an unusually brutal winter.
