The State Attorney General’s Office is investigating the death of an Elbridge man who had a more than 5 hour stand-off with police Sunday night. Sheriff Toby Shelley says 62 year-old Frederick Marty fired a gun from his mobile home and struck a parked vehicle with a juvenile female inside. Fortunately, she’s ok. Shelley said the suspect refused to communicate with deputies. He adds, it appeared SWAT Team members were in imminent danger after a sheriff’s drone flew near the mobile home.
“We breached the window and that’s when he pointed at the drone, as the drone is gonna go in. And then the SWAT members that reached the window, that’s when he pointed his long gun at them.”
Officers arrived shortly after 6 pm Sunday night after they received a call the suspect shot out the back window of his mobile home. Residents of the trailer park were evacuated for six hours. The sheriff said he doesn’t know why the man shot his gun initially or whether he had any issues with his neighbors. The attorney general's office investigates all officer involved shooting deaths.
