Kids and families are invited to a special celebration of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library 2 millionth gifted book locally. The milestone was reached over the summer when a four year-old Baldwinsville toddler was presented the book. Literacy Coalition of Onondaga County director Rich Gasiorowski said young children interacting with books helps them become life-long readers.
“And spend that quality time of hearing words and being exposed to words early-on in their childhood. Cause we all know that you need to be on third grade reading level by third grade,” said Gasiorowski. These books help us get there. We start out with these and then you move on to school. So, zero to third grade you learn to read and then after third grade, you read to learn.”
Gasiorowski said over 16,000 kids in Onondaga County are currently enrolled in Parton’s Imagination Library program. Saturday’s free event happens at the LeMoyne College James Commons Campus Center happens from 10 am to 2 pm.
