About 10,000 people flocked to the Westcott Street Cultural Festival last year and organizers anticipate another banner year on Sunday, September 27th but, they don’t want anyone to park illegally and get towed away. Several narrow Westcott Neighborhood streets have restricted parking on one side to allow emergency vehicles access. Festival chair Sharon Sherman cautioned drivers to pay attention where parking is allowed and to utilize the free shuttle East Side Business Center.
“It’s gonna run every half-hour from 1201 East Fayette Street up to the fair and stopping at Hawthorne and Westcott,” said Sherman. “And it will run every hour-hour alternately back down to the parking lot.”
Sherman says the fair cost a lot of money to run last year and they’re still looking to raise more funds with a new Friends of the Fair Center Stage booth. The event’s interactive website contains a map of the 140 booths to plan. For example…
“I want to go to the booth where a particular non-profit, or I’m looking for pottery, I’m looking for jewelry. You can plan where you’re going to the fair in advance of going to the fair by looking at the booth. And that’s something we’ve done in the last few years and people find it very helpful,” Sherman said.
The 33rd Westcott Street Cultural Festival is this Sunday from noon to 6:30 in the 500 block of Westcott Street and nearby side streets. Six festival stages of entertainment including blues, jazz and funk music and multicultural dance groups. Accessible parking is behind Boom Babies on Hawthorne Street. Other festival parking is available at the Thornden Park pool lot.
