New Yorkers who take prescription drugs are being urged to apply for compensation from a settlement in which drug companies inflated the prices of generic drugs. The settlement comes from an investigation by Attorney General Letitia James, working with attorneys general from almost every other state, 48 in all.
The settlement, agreed to by the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut, says it was a long-running scheme involving collusion among numerous pharmaceutical companies to inflate prices. More than 100 different drugs were involved, from antibiotics and anti-depressants to contraceptives, and anti-inflammatory drugs.
James said in a statement that the investigation, “found that dozens of companies illegally colluded behind the scenes to increase prices for a wide range of generic drugs used by millions of consumers.”
Officials further uncovered an ongoing web of collusion among industry executives including, “industry dinners, “girls’ nights out,” lunches, cocktail parties, and golf outings, and communicated via frequent telephone calls, emails, and text messages that sowed the seeds for their illegal agreements,” James shared in a release.
Claims have to be made by next March. People can find out their eligibility and submit a claim in several ways .
