The 23rd Syracuse International Film Festival begins this afternoon in Cazenovia. It’s the second year in a row the event has branched out outside of Syracuse to show films at the Catherine Cummings Theatre. Executive director and President Michelle DiBernardo said a new category this year is Sports Documentaries.
“And we have a baseball film “Full Count” which involves three different colleges throughout New York State. And “Jab” which is a short film with boxing… featuring some locals and then going ring side in the mountains," said DiBernardo "So, we’ve got some people from the Boxing Hall of Fame that were involved in that documentary.”
DiBernardo stresses the film festival is not just for those in the entertainment business, it’s open to everyone. There’s some star power with a famous actor appearing Saturday night.
“We’re honoring Arian Moayed which he is literally Marvel Universe, Agent Clary, Spiderman, Marvel Man, The Succession. You know Broadway. He’s huge.”
DiBernardo says the festival is presenting some of the film festival outside of Syracuse to get visiting filmmakers to see the surrounding area as potential backdrops for their future films. The Syracuse International Film Festival wraps-up Sunday at the Palace Theatre in Eastwood.
