Syracuse University students will have a chance to hear from online creators and business during a two day event beginning today. The 2nd ‘CUSE Creator Con will feature some of the top talent and players in online business and social media platforms that generated a portion of $252 billion in online revenue in 2025. The conference is presented by SU’s Center for the Creator Economy. Executive Director Ryan Schram said social media apps are allowing creators to make connections.
“These are entire platforms set up to enable creators to form relationships with individuals, live streaming, video and audio," Schram said. "And increasingly tying the opportunity to promote the sale of products or services where you can just swipe up and buy them instantaneously.”
SU students will also share their online stories and experiences as creators and communicators to large audiences. However, Schram said the Creator Economy has no age limit for sharing their expertise or insights.
“One of the largest areas of creator growth in North America is adults over the age of 55. It defies a bit of the logic," said Schram. "I think you could overly simply it and say, ‘Oh, this is for young Gen Z, older Gen Alphas, it’s just who they are.’”
Schram said the creator economy has nuanced components due to the many ways Americans consume media online. Creator Con is sold out Thursday and Friday. However, some of the presentations will be livestreamed and video recaps will be posted after the conference. It’s presented by the Whitman School and the Newhouse School.
