Here in Central New York the Blue Wave re-elected Democrats in 5 legislative seats and blocked an aggressive Republican challenger for the Congressional seat. Democratic Chair Josh Ludden credits the candidates hard work who hit the streets.
“We had a great slate of candidates who went out and did a ton of work, knocked tons of doors. I think it was over 20,000 in Onondaga County," said Ludden "Having the Democrats in the majority… people saw, you know when we have Democrats here there’s things that can get done, there’s ways that we can make positive change.”
Ludden said the Onondaga County Legislature’s new Supermajority will strive for productive working relationships with the Republican Minority.
“The folks that got elected are going to be willing to work with… whether it’s the County Executive, those fellow Legislators, other partners in government to be able to deliver," Ludden said. "And I really would like to see… we’ve seen a lot of toxic campaigning, right? We’re going to work together and make things better and really try to have and approach that works for everybody.”
A Democratic Supermajority also means, they have the power to override any vetoes by Republican County Executive Ryan McMahon. The Onondaga County Republican Committee Chair who also ran for Clay Town Supervisor is dealing with a double blow, the loss of his race to Democrat Dave Capria and substantial losses by the Republican Party.
