Ian Eagle '90

Inducted in 2013

Ian Eagle’s voice has become synonymous with high-profile sports broadcasting, from the hardwood of the NBA to the gridiron of the NFL.

Since joining CBS Sports in 1998, Eagle has served as the lead play-by-play announcer for NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball and the network’s No. 2 NFL team alongside JJ Watt and Evan Washburn. In 2023, he called his first NCAA Men’s Final Four National Semifinals and Championship, teaming with Bill Raftery, Grant Hill, and Tracy Wolfson. Eagle also broadcasts New York Jets preseason games on WCBS-TV and has been the voice of the Brooklyn Nets on the YES Network for nearly two decades.

A multi-year Emmy winner, Eagle has earned New York Sports Emmys nearly every year from 2013 to 2024 and has been named both New York and National Sportscaster of the Year. Beyond the booth, he mentors aspiring broadcasters and sponsors youth sports broadcasting camps, leaving a lasting legacy.

A graduate of Syracuse University’s Newhouse School, Eagle first gained experience in play by play while covering football, basketball, and lacrosse at WAER, where his early dedication and talent set the stage for a distinguished career.
