John Nicholson '68

John Nicholson has over 40 years of experience in local and network sports and news broadcasting. He has appeared on ESPN, USA Network, SNY, NESN, and syndicated programming, hosting events ranging from airplane and hydroplane racing to the Incredible Dog Challenge, American Kennel Club shows, and the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain. Nicholson has also provided live pre and post-game coverage of Syracuse University football and basketball through Orange All-Access and WSYR Radio.

In addition to his on-air work, Nicholson has served as coordinating producer for documentary-style projects, including histories of University of Southern California and Notre Dame football, as well as Syracuse’s The Legend of 44. He currently produces, writes, and voices online coverage of the Experimental Aircraft Association’s AirVenture in Wisconsin.

Nicholson reported and anchored news for more than 25 years at television stations in Syracuse, Tampa-St. Petersburg, Jacksonville, Houston, and New York, earning a Florida Emmy for public service, a National Association of Television Program Executives award, and numerous local and state honors for investigative and general assignment reporting.

Returning to his alma mater from 1998 to 2017, Nicholson taught courses in sports and news broadcasting at Syracuse University’s Newhouse School and served as director of the Newhouse Sports Media Center from 2013 to 2017.
