Joseph Hernandez

NY Comptroller - Challenger (R)

Joseph Hernandez, 52, is from Key West, Florida, and holds degrees from the University of Florida (B.S. and MBA), Yale University (M.S.) and the University of Oxford. He worked at Merck & Co. and founded organizations that invest in innovations to improve public health and advance scientific discovery. He is a biotechnology entrepreneur and investor making his first run for statewide office. He proposes a $10 billion 'Empire Opportunity Fund' for investing in New York and says outmigration is the state's biggest threat. He would create a fraud strike team of forensic accountants, with a focus on Medicaid fraud. He would also build an in-house investment team for the pension fund and would not invest the fund in cryptocurrency.
