Steve Geimann '75

Steve Geimann is a veteran journalist and editor with more than 30 years of experience spanning across newspapers, broadcasting, trade publications, and wire services. He began his career reporting and broadcasting for radio stations in Syracuse and Binghamton, New York.

Geimann held key positions at United Press International (UPI), including Washington bureau chief during the 1991 Persian Gulf War, Southeast editor in Miami, and business writer for upstate New York. He also served as UPI’s executive editor and spokesman during its 1992 bankruptcy and transition. In 1999, he joined Bloomberg News as an editor covering financial markets, telecommunications, transportation, and politics, and from 2005 to 2007, he anchored Bloomberg’s daily market wrap-up program, The Final Word.

Active in journalism leadership, Geimann served as national president of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) from 1996 to 1997, chaired its Ethics Committee, and was awarded the Wells Memorial Key, SPJ’s highest honor, in 2001. He has represented SPJ on the Accrediting Council for Education in Journalism and Mass Communications, evaluating journalism programs at over 100 universities, and led a task force examining technology’s impact on the field.

A graduate of Syracuse University’s Newhouse School, Geimann got his start at WAER, where he contributed to the station’s student coverage.
