The sight of wind turbines out in the ocean might seem strange, futuristic or technologically difficult. But in fact, offshore wind power is a major piece of New York's goal of producing 70% of the state's power from renewable sources by 2030. The technology is not new; other countries have been successfully using offshore wind for electricity for decades. Several companies are moving forward with large-scale projects off the coast, each of which can create enough power to serve tens of thousands of homes.
On this Episode of Deeper Shade of Green, Janna Herndon, NYSERDA's Manager of offshore wind and other utility-grade projects, talks with Dr. Chris Bolt about the promise of the technology. She also explains the economy it's creating, for manufacturing, construction, and maintenance of the huge wind turbines and the infrastructure to build them as part of our power grid.
The future of wind power and its importance in fending off the climate crisis on this episode of Deeper Shade of Green.
