There was great promise in the growth of green jobs when New York and other areas had numerous renewable energy projects slated to be built, and electric vehicles and charging infrastructure were on the rise. These were made possible by state policies such as New York's climate law, and federal backing through the infrastructure act and incentives. But when Donald Trump took office in 2025, his administration halted more than $20 billion in green energy projects, not only stopping them but also vilifying the sector.
On this episode of Deeper Shade of Green, Jesse Lee, Senior Advisor for Climate Power explains the economic impacts of those decisions. The group estimates 179,000 jobs were lost. He suggests the policies are a cash grab for the fossil fuel industry, which has funneled millions into Trump interests. But Lee is also optimistic for a future comeback of renewable energy, since the nation has a growing need for electricity and the climate benefits will be undeniable.
