cuse.com

15th ranked Army (3-1) came into the Carrier Dome Sunday afternoon with an undefeated record to start out the 2019 campaign. Number 20 Syracuse (2-1) handed Army its first loss by a score of 10-8. SU was led by the strength of two goals each from Nate Solomon and David Likpa.

The contest started out close early on, as neither team led by more than one goal until about halfway through the second quarter, when Syracuse led five to three. SU extended that lead by two more goals on David Lipka’s first score early in the third quarter.

Syracuse and Army stacked up evenly in multiple offensive categories; shots (38 for Army, 37 for SU,) shots on goal (24 to 28,) and turnovers (16 to 13.) This was the case despite Syracuse winning 17 faceoffs to Army’s four. 15 of those were collected by Sophomore Jakob Phuap. Neither team converted on man down opportunities.

Drake Porter saved eight out of 16 shots for the Orange en route to a win. Army’s AJ Barretto saved 10 of 18.

Syracuse's defense set the tone, causing 16 turnovers. The defensive unit especially locked down in the middle of the game, holding Army to a 18:45 goal drought from the second quarter into the third.
