Syracuse Looks to Upset LSU In Death Valley

Syracuse University Athletics/Cuse.com

Syracuse football (2-1, 0-0) faces a tough task tomorrow night in Baton Rouge. The Orange takes on #25  LSU (2-1, 0-1) in the first road game of the season for Cuse.

SU is looking to build off of a dominant win over Central Michigan (2-1,0-0) last week.  The Orange had 300 yards on the ground in the 41-17 victory.

Eric Dungey once again led the team in rushing. He has done so in all three games this season. The Junior also added on 279 yards through the air against the Chippewas.

Dungey has found success this year connecting with wide out Steve Ishmael. The senior receiver leads the NCAA in receptions with 34 through three games. Ishmael is also tied for fifth in the country in receiving yards with 389. Despite the success, the Miami native has not caught a touchdown yet this season.

LSU is coming off of a completely different week from the Orange. The Tigers struggled mightily against Mississippi State (3-0, 1-0), losing 37-7. The LSU defense gave up 285 yards on the ground, including almost 100 from the opposing quarterback.

The Orange and LSU kick off at 7 pm tomorrow. Tune into Coundown to Kickoff at 6:30 on 88.3 FM WAER.

Tigers running back Derrius Guice will start Sunday's game. It was initially reported that Guice would not play against Syracuse after leaving last week's game with an undisclosed injury. The junior reportedly convinced the team to let him practice and he looked good enough to give it a go on Sunday.

The Orange defense has played the run surprisingly well this year. They are currently the 11th ranked rush defense in the country after finishing tied for 108th last year. They'll be expected to stop an LSU offense which rushes for over 200 yards per game.

This is the last non-conference game for Syracuse before they head into ACC play. Matchups include a date with Clemson at the Carrier Dome, and road games with Florida State and Louisville.
