Syracuse Looks to Remain Undefeated Against Florida State

Cuse.com

After a 62-10 win over Wagner, Syracuse faces their first ACC opponent in Florida State. Syracuse is going into this game after a dominant performance on both offense and defense against Wagner. The Syracuse offense amassed a total of 456 all-purpose yards. On defense and special teams, Syracuse caught three interceptions and blocked two punts. The special teams unit was able to return one of those blocked punts back for a touchdown. The Orange are looking for another all-around strong performance this weekend to remain undefeated.

Syracuse’s senior quarterback has been very impressive in the first two games of the season. In these last two games alone, Dungey has thrown seven touchdowns, thrown for 402 passing yards, and rushed for 244 yards. In the game against Wagner, Eric threw his 47th career touchdown pass and moved up to fourth on the all-time Syracuse passing touchdown list. With a good performance against Florida State, Dungey can pass Marvin Graves with a multi-touchdown game.  Eric Dungey is definitely a player that should have another outstanding game against a Florida State defense that gives up a lot of points to opposing offenses.

On the defensive side of the ball, fans should be excited to watch freshman defensive back Andre Cisco. In his first game in the dome, Cisco led the defense by intercepting two passes each giving the Syracuse offense great field position. These two interceptions added to the one he grabbed in his first game against Western Michigan. Cisco has played a big part in getting our high powered offense back on the field which should be helpful in a close game against Florida State.

Coming into Saturday, Florida State has a record of 1-1 with an unexpected loss to Virginia Tech in the first week of play. Florida started their season in the college football top 25 but quickly fell after the brutal loss to the Hokies. With a new head coach and a quarterback coming back from a knee injury, Syracuse has an opportunity to move up in the ACC.  For Syracuse to come out of the dome with a conference win on Saturday, they need to continue to roll on offense. Last week, Florida State allowed a very young Samford team to gain a total of 525 yards. The previous week they allowed 319 yards to Virginia Tech. If this team has a weakness it is definitely their defense. On the offensive side of the ball for Florida State, Deondre Francois, the quarterback for Florida State, has struggled. So far this season, Francois has thrown three touchdown and three interceptions. All three interceptions came in the game against Virginia Tech and all his touchdowns came in the comeback win against Samford. The Florida State offensive line has also struggled allowing six sacks in the two games. This opens the door for the Syracuse pass rushers to force Francois into making bad decisions with the football. Last season, Syracuse almost completed the upset and have the opportunity to redeem themselves with a win on Saturday.
