Syracuse Welcomes Last Place Wake Forest

After a week off, Syracuse hoops will host Wake Forest in the Dome Saturday night. Scheduled for an 8p.m. tipoff, the match-up will feature a Syracuse team that still has March Madness tournament hopes and a Wake team that sits last in the ACC standings.

The Orange now 13-9 overall and 6-5 in the conference are currently wedged in the middle of the ACC standings surrounded by nine other teams that are all within a couple games of each other.

It has been an odd year for college basketball and an especially weird year for the ACC which looks to lack that top to bottom conference depth they have displayed in years past. Even Louisville who leads the ACC at 11-1 in the conference seems to be on upset alert almost every week.

With the conference being as weak as it is, Syracuse still controls their own destiny and could find themselves with a ticket to the tournament if they take care of business against upcoming ACC bottom feeders.

The Demon Deacons (10-12, 3-9) travel to Syracuse seven and a half point underdogs, their sixth straight game as point-spread dogs.

Wake will be led by their six-foot guard, Brandon Childress, who is averaging over 15 points per game and has 98 assists on the season. Syracuse will have their hands full with Wake’s seven foot center, Olivier Sarr, who averages 13 points a game to go along with over 9 boards.

For Syracuse to get back on track it will have to be the usual suspects. Elijah Hughes and Marek Dolezaj are both coming off of 20 plus point games against Duke.

This is the only scheduled meeting between these two teams this season.

Last year the Orange beat the Demon Deacons 79-54 in Winston-Salem.
