Hardwear on the Line Versus Hobart

cuse.com

One of the nation's oldest college lacrosse rivalries will be renewed once again Friday night with a clash featuring two undefeated teams and the Kraus-Simmons Trophy on the line. The number three team in the nation, Syracuse, welcomes in-state foe Hobart for the 106th edition of the game.

The Statesmen are off to one of their best starts in school history as they have scored over 20 goals in each of their first three games. Senior, Eric Holden, has led the way tallying a team leading 20 points to start the 2020 campaign.

The Orange are just as hot, ripping off three wins of their own to start the season. They have been near automatic in the face-off X, boasting the best face-off percentage in the country (.747).

Syracuse goalie, Drake Porter, has been bricking up the net and was rewarded last week with ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors. He will face a tall challenge Friday as Hobart leads the country in scoring, averaging 23 goals per game.

Last year Syracuse stomped the Statesmen 17-5 at Hobart. That victory marked the Orange’s sixth straight win versus Hobart, in a rivalry that Syracuse has dominated 77-26-2.

Friday’s tilt will be the last lacrosse game underneath the old Dome roof before the Dome goes under a major renovation for the rest of the season. Oddly enough, Hobart played in the first ever lacrosse game in the Dome against Brown. Syracuse played Navy later that night.

The Syracuse Women’s lacrosse team will kickoff Friday’s Dome doubleheader with a 3:00 game against Maryland.

Syracuse and Hobart’s only common opponent is Colgate. The Orange beat the Raiders 21-4 and the Statesmen beat the Raiders 21-13 a couple weeks later.

Chase Scanlan leads the Orange in scoring with 12 points and Jamie Tromboli leads the squad in goals with 11.

Syracuse took down #7 Army last week and will play at Johns Hopkins next week.
