Syracuse men’s lacrosse (1-0, 0-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) started its season off on the right foot with a 20-7 rout of Vermont (0-1). The victory helped SU head coach Gary Gait remain perfect in season openers since he took over the team. A large chunk of the aforementioned 20 goals that the ‘Cuse offense produced was due in part to the transfers.
Attackman Christian Mulé, in particular, had a hat trick and two assists to boot. The Lehigh transfer thinks the offense with new pieces has settled in.
“As the game went on, you could see how comfortable our offense looked today,” Mulé noted.

Mulé ended up putting in the first goal of the game for SU after Vermont opened the scoring in the contest. But, it wasn’t just Mulé being the only newcomer to get in on the action. Midfielder Jake Stevens had three points while Sam English had a pair of goals. Going forward, Gait believes it will be more imperative for the SU transfers to have performances like this, especially in the wake of midfielder Max Rosa’s season ending injury.
“Losing a guy like that is difficult but it shows other players need to step up,” the ‘Cuse head man remarked.
Among the new faces is the faceoff tandem of Mason Kohn and John Mullen. The duo reeled in 21 of 31 faceoffs for the Orange. Kohn won about 65% of his draws himself. After playing his first game for Syracuse, the Tufts transfer thinks he’s settled into his role in a new place.
“I think it’s just important to get the ball to our scorers,” Kohn commented. “Overall, my teammates have made the transition really smooth for me.”
The SU transfers are back in action on Monday against Colgate. This game marks the second off a seven game homestand to open the season for the Orange. The contest begins at 6 p.m. WAER’s coverage begins with McClurg Remodeling Countdown to Faceoff at 5:30 p.m.
