On Senior Night, Syracuse came out the gate getting points in the paint. The Orange got out to a 9-2 start with six of their nine points coming inside the paint.
Syracuse controlled a 19-10 lead after one quarter behind stellar defense and great interior play. 16 of 19 Syracuse points came inside the paint as they shot 39.1% from the floor. SU dominated the offensive glass, grabbing seven offensive rebounds in the first quarter.
‘Cuse defense was great to start the game holding Boston college to just 10 points on 23.5% shooting behind good closeouts and great rotations.
Syracuse continued this formula into the second quarter which allowed them to hold a 45-20 lead heading into halftime.
Syracuse outscored the Eagles 34-12 in the paint in the half along with outrebounding the Eagles 27-19.
Syracuse held BC to just 25.8% from the floor in the first half. The Orange forced 12 turnovers. Boston College had more turnovers than field goals in the first half. SU scored 13 points off those 12 turnovers.
Coach Felisha Legette-Jack says that the team’s identity should be about defense.
“It’s kind of what we’re supposed to do and how we supposed to run this team. I neglected it, they neglected it, and the result are what they are. Hopefully now that we have the light on, we’ll get better and be a better team for it,” said Coach Jack
The Orange stuck to the formula of defending at a high level and dominating the interior on offense on their way to an 82-57 victory.
Syracuse shot 43% in the game. The Orange scored 27 points off 21 turnovers and outsourced Boston College 50-32 in the paint.
The usual big three lead the way for Syracuse in this ballgame.
Sophie Burrows with 16 points and eight rebounds. Senior Georgia Woolley finished the game with 19 points with six assists and five rebounds on 50% shooting. Senior Kyra Wood added 14 points and six rebounds.
Wood says the team was ready to go on Senior Night.
“I think this one was personal, we lost by a big margin the last game. We just went in there with a locked in mindset…we needed to go out and be dominated and show them whose house it is,” said Wood.
Syracuse (12-17,6-12) moves on to the ACC tournament where they will square off with Boston College (15-16,6-12) for the third time this season on Wednesday.
