The New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG) wants the state to include wine, spirits, hard cider, and other non-carbonated beverages in the bottle deposit program while doubling the deposit from 5 to 10 cents.

There's optimism that an expanded bottle bill may get a vote, as well as a measure that aims to reduce plastic packaging.

They say adding more categories of containers would reduce the use of plastics and ease burdens on municipal landfills.
