ACC

Syracuse got run all over by Cam Akers last week, to the tune of 145 yards and 4 touchdowns. This week against Boston College, things don't get any easier against AJ Dillon. Dillon is the only 1,000 yard rusher in the ACC. Hosts Brendan Mortensen and Owen Valentine are joined by JD Raucci to discuss SU's defensive struggles last week, and if the Orange can turn things around against the Eagles.

As the 2019 College Football season reaches its halfway point, the Syracuse Orange (3-3, 0-2), have many questions left to answer.

Which Tommy DeVito can we count on going forward, the healthy one who racked up nearly 400 total yards and five touchdowns against Western Michigan, or the injury-prone one who has a 12:5 touchdown to interception ratio and two costly red zone picks?

The ACC  didn't fare so well in the Men's College Basketball Elite Eight this past weekend. That being said the ACC is still a powerhouse of a conference in men's lacrosse. It boasts teams such as Virignia, Syracuse, and Duke, all ranked in the Top 20. This week on The Best of WAER Sports Podcast, Tim Leonard looks at the conference as a whole and how it stacks up across the rest of Division One lacrosse.

Also this week, they don't call them the 'cardiac cuse' for no reason. Syracuse Men's Lacrosse has been clutch in the finals minutes this season.  WAER's Jonathan Hoppe has the story behind SU's late game success.

It’s tough to put a 26-point loss in the rear-view mirror, especially one where your team was winning at halftime. That is exactly what the Orange (19-11,10-7) have to do this Saturday against the Clemson Tigers (18-12, 8,9) in both teams’ regular season finales.

The Orange has already taken down the Tigers this season. Forward Elijah Hughes led Syracuse with 14 points in the team’s 61-53 win over Clemson in the Carrier Dome. ‘Cuse followed up that January 9th win by losing to Georgia Tech three days later.

After a week of uncertainty and emotion, Saturday finally arrived, as did 35,642 faithful Orange fans. On Wednesday, it was reported that Syracuse Head Coach Jim Boeheim struck and killed a pedestrian with his car. It was unclear if he would resume his coaching duties on Saturday, but Syracuse University Athletic Director John Wildhack announced that Boeheim would coach against the top-ranked Duke Blue Devils on Saturday.

Syracuse University Men's Lacrosse has a history of being a dominant force in college lacrosse. If they want to keep that claim this year they'll need susbstantial leadership from their team of captains. This week on The Best of WAER Sports Podcast, Jonah Karp explains that this year's captains have a interesting blend of old and new.

Also this week, Boston College might not impress you in the landscape of  ACC Men's Baskteball, but it hasn't always been that way. WAER's Tim Leonard reminds us that BC used to be a force in the conference and explain their plan to return to that state.

Syracuse and Duke have treated college basketball fans to quite a few memorable games since the two became ACC rivals. And while that has made for some amazing moments, Syracuse still has a few old Big East foes that renew their rivalry every season.

One of those teams is the Pittsbrugh Panthers.  The last few seasons though, Pittsburgh has suffered a steep decline and have struggled to remain relevant. This week on The Best of WAER Sports Podcast, WAER's JD Raucci explains that new head coach Jeff Capel has things headed in the right direction.

On the heels of taking down top-ranked Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium, Syracuse returned home to the Carrier Dome and defeated Pittsburgh, 74-63.

Syracuse (13-5, 4-1) came into the game with all the confidence in the world and it showed, as the defense held Pittsburgh (12-6, 2-3) to just 63 points in the second straight win for the Orange. Meanwhile, the Panthers were coming off an impressive victory themselves, defeating No. 11 Florida State 75-62 on Monday.

Over the last five years or so you can probably think of  a few memorable  men's college basketball games between Syracuse and North Carolina. What about college football? If you're having a hard time thinking of a recent one you're not alone.

WAER's Connor Federico tells us that this past weekend was the first time Syracuse and North Carolina went head-to-head in football in over five years. But that doesn't mean their meetings havent't been remarkable in their own right.

It was the sixth time the Syracuse university Men's Lacrosse team would find itself in a one-goal game this season.  But unlike four of the previous five, SU didn't find a way to pull it out at the end.  Virginia downed the Orange 11-10 Friday Night in a game that could have implications on where - or if - the team plays in the NCAA championships.
