Both of Central New York’s Congressmembers voted against the huge Build Back Better bill, President Biden’s social spending initiative that just passed the House.

22nd District Representative Claudia Tenney criticized it for “out-of-control spending and a far-left agenda” that she says drags government into every aspect of family life.

Meanwhile, the 24th District’s John Katko said it’s one of the largest expansions of government in history, while opposing climate crisis spending. He falsely claimed that it would raise middle-class taxes by 30%. The Tax Policy Center research estimates fewer that 30% of middle-class taxpayers would see a very small increase. And for income taxes alone, fewer the one percent of those making $500,000 or less would see any increase.
