The Transportation Security Administration at Syracuse’s Hancock International Airport is hiring ahead of the highly anticipated busy summer travel season. The part and full-time openings are for TSA Officers to screen baggage and passengers and other roles. Regional Federal Security Director Bart Johnson explains that TSA officers monitor the airport and carry out the highest level of security screenings to prevent another 9/11.

"These dedicated officers, that’s their sole function in life is to be that last line of defense and prevent it from happening, again. They do it at the X-ray, they do it through the walk through metal detectors, they do it in baggage, they walk around the airport with assignments trying to detect suspicious activity.”

Johnson says there are many advancement opportunities for TSA Officers within the federal government, and the possibilities are limitless. He says those who feel strongly about national security would be good candidates.

“Whether you’re graduating high school, community college, just getting out of the military, wanna try something new and make a difference in your life and in society. That’s the type of person we’re looking for.”

Johnson says he’s looking to hire 15 new officers by next summer. Those selected will first start a two-week paid training session in Georgia, and then return to Syracuse for on-the-job training. Applications are available online.
