The Owner of Cazenovia Jewelers in Fayetteville Town Center recalled when he was forced to close the doors and send employees home in March of 2020. Now, the hard days seem to be behind him and the future is looking bright. Ralph Monforte said fortunately people found renewed interest in their lost treasures while they stayed home.

"People have cleaned out their drawers and closets and garages and found things that they’ve had that they just haven’t had time to deal with in the past and now have found the time and are reaching out to us to do repairs," Monforte said.

Monforte was dressed up with suspenders and graced with a little sheet rock dust after knocking out a wall leading to a new 1,000 square foot addition. The extra space will accommodate four jewelers who are constantly busy.

“I can’t tell you the numbers of people who are in on a regular basis and need those services," Monfort said. "In many cases when people come in we try to explain to them of the value of what they have and how we can turn it into another piece of jewelry that’ll give extended value to them and extended use for them, in some other format.”

He also said people are making their purchase decisions based on expressing less lasting emotions about the price tag.

Nearby Carraba’s restaurant has been seeing an increase in customers and are now beating 2019 sales. In fact, manager Paige Fagan said sales are improving daily.

“I think it was people kinda stuck at home and now they wanna get back out, again.  Number one, I have staff, the management team has been together this whole time, and so, I think that really strengthens operations as far as the execution.”

Fagan said it was difficult to enforce the state’s indoor mask mandate, but it didn’t seem to deter people from dining. Business at Carraba’s has returned to normal levels, even before mask restrictions were lifted.
