Sen. Schumer vows to address smell from Fulton biofuel plant

google maps

Senator Chuck Schumer paid a visit to Oswego County Tuesday, where he vowed to address the stench coming from a former biofuel plant there. He's urging the EPA to work with the state DEC to ensure routine air testing at the former Attis plant in Volney.

It appears rotting corn used to make fuel at the plant has burned a hole in the silo. While the air appears safe, the corn emits a terrible odor. There's also concern about a fire threat as the corn smolders in the summer heat.

Schumer called out the former owner to address current hurdles so a new owner can take over the plant. The plant on the former Miller Brewing site in Volney has apparently been inactive for months, and has changed ownership a few times since it reopened as an ethanol plant in 2008.
