Sen. Rachel May, New York State Senator of District 53, is being recognized as a “Leader of the Year” by the Rural Schools Association of New York State.

May was chosen for her work which helps both rural schools and communities. Some of the initiatives she has been working on are supporting the creation of improved foundations for rural schools, expanding broadband internet access with the WIRED Act, and new benefits and programs to support farmers.

May said in a statement her senate district is unique because it includes one of the five largest cities in the state and also an entire rural county. May was honored at the Rural Schools Association’s recent annual summer conference held in Cooperstown.
