The Syracuse City School District Board of Education is seeking the assistance of a consulting firm to conduct a search for the next superintendent.

Jaime Alicea retired two weeks ago after nearly 40 years with the district and six years in the top post. Search firm Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates will scour the nation for Alicea’s successor.

The agency has a decades-long record of helping more than 1,500 school districts find their next leaders. The search process should be completed by this fall and a new superintendent should be in place by January.

Anthony Davis, an assistant superintendent with the district, is serving in the top role on an interim basis.
