The state has awarded $682 million in bonds and subsidies to either create or preserve affordable housing.

The goal is to expand housing options to reduce homelessness while also providing safe and secure housing for both families and individuals.

The city of Rochester has been awarded a combined $116 million for two projects that will create 257 affordable apartments in two old factory buildings, and another 45 supportive homes for seniors.

Housing developments will also leverage another $218 million in private funds.

It’s a part of Gov. Kathy Hochul’s $25 billion five-year comprehensive housing plan.
