Syracuse Common Councilor Amir Gethers was arrested Wednesday on charges related to a domestic violence incident, according to Syracuse.com.
The newspaper reports Gethers was charged with a misdemeanor for criminal obstruction of breathing and for harassment, which is a second-degree violation. Gethers pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Police arrested Gethers Wednesday morning after a domestic violence call came from a woman who identified as his girlfriend, Syracuse.com reported. According to the publication, his next scheduled court appearance is Nov. 3.
Gethers is currently serving a four-year term in an at-large seat on the Syracuse Common Council after being elected in 2021.
