Manlius police arrested an East Syracuse Minoa High School student for posting a fake school shooting threat on social media.

The student was charged with a misdemeanor for making a terroristic threat of mass harm, according to a releasefrom the Manlius Police Department. Because of the crime's racist nature, it is also considered a hate crime.

Law enforcement said the student confessed after an investigation and interview.

East Syracuse Minoa High School said it is taking the proper security precautions after the event, such as installing a weapons detection system in the high school.
