New data released from the AARP about Central New York's August primary election voters found 81% of ballots cast in the area were by residents 50 and older.
This figure surpasses the statewide average of 75% of votes cast by this older demographic and over-represents their share of all registered voters.
In Onondaga County, 80% of those 50 and older cast ballots in the primaries, which exceeded the amount of all registered voters in the county who participated in the primaries, at 51%.
AARP State Director Beth Finkel said voters 50 and older will decide the outcome of next month’s election. She said the issues important to voters are counting on Social Security, Medicare, lower-priced prescription drugs and the ability to remain at home with longterm care.
The margin of error for the survey is plus or minus 5%.
