Election season has started this week and WAER has prepared a special round up including election 2022 events happening this week, key details on what candidates from the 126th to the 128th Assembly District are advocating for and the main issues in the New 48th and 50th Senate District race.

1. Election 2022: 126th Assembly District candidates concerned about education, Inflation

Voters in the mostly rural 126th Assembly District have to decide whether to keep their one-term Republican incumbent or go with a Democrat who’s new to politics after a 30-year career in education.

Central New York voters have to choose a state senate member and an assembly member in this election. One of the positions is the 128th district race between democrat Pam Hunter and republican challenger Dominick Ciciarelli.

4. Election 2022: Water, state spending, Micron dominate issues in New 48th Senate District race

The new 48th Senate District covers a radically different territory. The district used to start in Syracuse and reached Oneida County but has expanded. Now, the district's incumbent and two other senator candidates are looking to the future after the district has geographically changed.

5. Election 2022: 50th Senate District race candidates clash on crime, look ahead with Micron

Republican Rebecca Shiroff faces off against incumbent Democrat John Mannion, who’s seeking a third term. The district now stretches from Camillus to across northeastern Onondaga County and into the southern third of Oswego County.

Besides Governor Kathy Hochul, who is seeking a full term in office, and Congressman Lee Zeldin running for New York Governor, they also share two other running mates, Democrat Antonio Delgado and Republican Alison Esposito.

A legal challenge to strike down New York laws, which expand absentee voting access, was rejected by the Appellate Division Third Department this week.
