Four airports in Upstate New York will be able to reach new heights with a total of nearly $25 million in federal funding for rehabilitation projects.

Syracuse, Albany, Binghamton, and Buffalo's airports are the recipients of the federal investment from the Airport Terminal Program, which was created by the Bipartisan Infrastructure and Jobs Law.

The Syracuse Regional Airport Authority will receive the most funding out of the four airports with $8.6 million. Buffalo Niagara International Airport and Greater Binghamton Airport will each receive $7 million, and Albany International Airport will receive an award of $2 million.

U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand announced the funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Aviation Administration.

"New York’s airports welcome millions of travelers each year and play a critical role in facilitating tourism, spurring local economic growth, and creating good-paying jobs across our state," Gillibrand said. "That's why we will continue to fight for resources for the airports to modernize and grow."

Each airport has its own projects that the received funding will go towards. The money provided to the Syracuse Hancock International Airport will be dedicated to increasing the sustainability of the terminal building.

"Replacing the HVAC system, siding and windows with more energy-efficient materials and systems is good for travelers and employees, as well as for sustainability and resiliency," Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh said.

The other three airports have similar development goals that will improve the efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of their operations.

In total, the Bipartisan Infrastructure and Jobs Law provided $5 billion in federal grants for airport terminal renovation projects. This most recent round of funding is expected to continue the development of airports for passengers, workers, and the environment.
