Tree pollen is measuring at a high concentration in the Central New York area. The National Allergy Bureau’s Rochester-based device shows levels have been climbing the last two weeks. This has more people reaching for allergy medicine.

Pharmacist Alicia Litizio works at the Syracuse Walgreens on East Genesee Street. She said she’s seeing more demand for key medications.

"I'm selling a lot of Sudafed," Litizio said.

Litizio said a good approach is treating symptoms before they start.

"It's important that if you know you have allergies just to take a consistent one everyday," she said. "It doesn't matter which one you take: Claratin, Zyrtec, Xyxol, Allegra — see which one works best for you.”

Some of the current top tree pollen producers include cottonwood, maple and ash.
