One of the fancy classic cars at this weekend's 2023 Syracuse Nationals will be from automotive students from East Syracuse Minoa (ESM) High School. Over the past year, the graduating class of the school's Spartan Garage restored a '33 Hot Rod HardTop Convertible, known as a Factory Five racing car.

ESM High School students have been a part the Syracuse car show most years for nearly two decades, having restored numerous classic cars — from the body all the way to getting the engine revving again — ranging from a Cobra Kit in 2006 to a 1961 Ford F100 in 2022 .

For car aficionados, the '33 Hot Rod HardTop Convertible has a 6.2L LS3 515 Horsepower and 700R4 Automatic Transmission under the hood, vintage air conditioning, 4-link independent rear suspension and 4-wheel power disc brakes. The paint and body work were completed by A/R Customs and Collisions, which works with the school.

ESM High School is holding a raffle through Sunday to auction off the classic hot rod, which will be one of dozens of cars on display at the three-day event.

Syracuse Nationals runs Friday through Sunday (July 14-16) at the NYS Fairgrounds.

Born and raised in Syracuse, I'm a rising senior at Institute of Technology at Syracuse Central (ITC) and a high school intern here at WAER. My love for sports always seemed like it would be a side hobby, but finding a path in the media industry to turn that love into an actual career is a dream come true.
