A local credit union is partnering with the National Veterans Resource Center at Syracuse University to guide younger military members once they graduate. A new interactive kiosk was unveiled today and will serve as digital resource to learn about financial readiness models. Executive Director of SU’s Office of Veteran and Military Affairs, Ron Novack says students can even learn how to negotiate their best salary for a new job.

“…And then your salary relative to where you want to go work. So, cost of living is a little different in Syracuse than it might be in Washington, DC or New York City or even Austin, Texas. And so that's where you know this kiosk and this financial readiness center helps our student veterans make informed decisions.”

Novack says the military does offer financial wellness training will build upon that. The kiosk was donated by Visions Federal Credit Union. The financial institution has many employees who are military veterans. Spokesperson Tim Strong says more searchable financial resources are being developed for the digital kiosk for all military students of any age.

“It's sometimes non- traditional students, right. It's not 18 to 21, it might be someone who's coming back a little bit later in life and really using those benefits. And so, we're developing more topics too that would be relevant to anybody. Things like improving your credit, buying your first house, we've had a lot of those too. So, it really is kind of marrying the two.”

Strong adds the company is committed to helping support military students by getting them prepared for life success.
