A popular Syracuse neighborhood is set to welcome visitors to the 32nd annual Westcott Street Cultural Fair this weekend. This year, the fair continues to offer a wide mix of local free music acts and performers, food and artists. Organizer Sharon Sherman said the fair features more than 140 booths ranging from vendors and organizations.
“Thirty to 40% of the booths are non-profit organizations and I say that every cause that there is that has an organization is at the Westcott Street Cultural Fair.”
Sherman said people should consider looking at the fair’s online interactive map to find the booths they’re really interested in visiting. Several genres of music performers and dancers are selected on six stages.
“The performing arts committee is very special because they accept applications and it’s made-up of musicians as well as other people who have an interest in the community. This year we’re also thinking about one of the early participants who passed away this year.”
The Westcott Street Cultural Fair is this Sunday, September 22nd from 12 noon to 6:30 pm and is set-up along the 500 block of Westcott Street and nearby side streets. The fair began 33 years ago after a supermarket closed and neighbors wanted to ensure the neighborhood’s vibrancy wouldn’t fade away. WAER is a sponsor of the event.
